Short Bio
I am a researcher in Natural Language Processing at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), where I work on NLP, text mining, and web mining methods to extract and analyse socio-political events and other signals from online sources. My work combines symbolic, linguistic, and machine-learning approaches to event extraction for crisis monitoring and socio-political analysis. I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and carried out postdoctoral research on multilingual question answering at FBK in Trento. I serve on the organising committee of the Event Extraction and Understanding: Challenges and Applications (EEUCA) workshop series, formerly CASE, on the automated extraction of socio-political events. I am also a member of the editorial board of Natural Language Processing at Cambridge University Press and of the advisory board of the John Benjamins Natural Language Processing book series. I was also part of the early organising team of the Balto-Slavic Natural Language Processing (BSNLP) workshop series. My research interests include event extraction, information extraction, and the use of online text for policy-relevant analysis.

Short Bio
I am a senior researcher at the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Language Technologies, Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. I have been working on building formal models of natural language, digital resources for natural language processing, semantic technologies, object-oriented modeling, standardization and interoperability of language resources and tools. I have extensive experience in research and development projects at national, European and international level synchronized with the up-to-date research and innovation trends in the field of Information Technologies. Between April 2013 and April 2019, I was a policy analyst and IT expert at the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) of the European Commission, the Knowledge for Finance, Innovation and Growth Unit. My work included the analysis of the research and innovation systems of the Member States, the study of innovation ecosystems, public-private partnerships, innovation impact of universities, entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer and the relevant policy developments.

Short Bio
Bertrand De Longueville is Head of the Text Mining and Artificial Intelligence Competence Centre, where he leads a team of specialists focused on evaluating and applying AI systems, particularly in natural language processing. His work supports the design of innovative, high-impact solutions that help the European Union fulfil its missions, while also examining the societal implications of AI technologies from a practical, hands-on perspective.

SCOPE
We aim to bring together research on spatio-temporal grounding and extraction of events, entities, and sentiments from textual sources; the tracking of physical and abstract phenomena across time and space; the construction of event and entity relations, graphs, and timelines; and the spatio-temporal inference of implicitly mentioned locations and time periods.

After thorough reviewing by the special session program committee, all accepted papers will be published in a special section of the conference proceedings book - under an ISBN reference - and abstracted/indexed in DBLP, Google Scholar, EI-Compendex, INSPEC, Japanese Science and Technology Agency (JST), Norwegian Register for Scientific Journals and Series, Mathematical Reviews, SCImago, Scopus and zbMATH. CCIS volumes are also submitted for the inclusion in ISI Proceedings.
