Brief Bio
Antonello Rizzi received the Dr. Eng. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1995 and the Ph.D. in Information and Communication Engineering in 2000, from the same University. In September 2000 he joined the "Information and Communication" Department (INFO-COM Dpt.) of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" as an Assistant Professor. Since July 2010 he joined the "Information, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering" Department (DIET), in the same University. His major fields of interest are in the area of Soft Computing, Pattern Recognition and Computational Intelligence, including supervised and unsupervised data driven modeling techniques, neural networks, fuzzy systems and evolutionary algorithms. His research activity concerns the design of automatic modeling systems, with particular focus on classification, clustering, function approximation and prediction problems. Currently, he is working on the following topics: Computational Intelligence techniques for Smart Grids and Micro Grids modelling, monitoring and control, Intelligent Systems for Sustainable Mobility, Energy Storage Systems modeling and control,Predictive Diagnostc systems for Condition Based Maintenance in Smart Grids, Complex Systems modelling and control, Granular Computing and Knowledge Discovery, Data Mining Systems in Industrial Applications, Classification and clustering systems for structured patterns, graph and sequence matching, symbolic inductive modeling systems, agent-based clustering and substructures mining. Since 2008 he serves as the scientific coordinator and technical director of the R&D activities in the Intelligent Systems Laboratory within the Sustainable Mobility Pole of Lazio Region. He is author of more than 160 publications on international journals and conferences. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.

Brief Bio
Enrico De Santis received the M.A.Sc. (Hons.) and the Ph.D degrees in Information and Communication engineering from "Sapienza" University of Rome (Italy) and worked as an assistant researcher and successively as a postdoc with the Department of Computer Science at Toronto Metropolitan University (Toronto, Canada). Currently, he holds a researcher position with the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications (DIET) at "Sapienza", with teaching duties in Computational Intelligence and Pattern Recognition courses. His research interests include artificial intelligence, complex systems and data-driven modeling, natural language processing, computational intelligence, neural networks and fuzzy systems with applications in Smart Grids, Renewable Energy Communities and predictive maintenance. Since 2017, he has joined an innovative startup at "Sapienza" University as CTO, dealing with the management of Artificial Intelligence projects in production environments.

SCOPE

The sustainable utilization of energy resources, the increasing complexity of electrical grids, and the emergence of renewable energy communities present significant challenges for energy management and optimization. This Special Session aims to explore the frontiers and challenges within the field of Computational Intelligence, focusing on Evolutionary Computation-based solutions, Fuzzy Logic, and Artificial Neural Networks for the optimal usage and management of energy resources in Smart Grid scenarios. Additionally, the session will address the specific challenges of energy flow optimization in renewable energy communities. Covered topics include Computational Intelligence for Smart Grids Applications, Soft Computing-based Algorithms, Machine Learning, Big Data analytics, Learning-based Control of Renewable Energy Generators, Smart Building Energy Management, and more.
